A recent train accident has caused the destruction of a number of “A Files” while in transit from the National Benefits Center (NBC) to N.E. Region USCIS Field Offices. The USCIS stated that adjustment of status and naturalization interviews for April and May 2012 at Northeast Region USCIS Field Offices have been rescheduled due to a train derailment.
The good news is because documentation from applications filed with the Lockbox is scanned, USCIS is able to recreate the destroyed A Files.
There is some concern from applicants and attorneys regarding identity fraud. Many of the applications include Social Security Numbers and other personal information. For those individuals affected by the incident, USCIS is offering a one-year free membership for Triple Advantage Credit Monitoring from ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. an Experian company.
