The USCIS will implement the “CIV/SIT” (Customer Identity Verification/Secondary Inspection Tool) in USCIS Field Offices next week.

Under this new process an individual appearing at a USCIS field office for an interview or to receive evidence of an immigration benefit will have his or her identity biometrically re-verified. The purpose is to help to both defend against threats to national security and protect customers from identity fraud by enhancing the agency’s ability to verify identity. After identity verification is satisfactorily completed, individuals will proceed to their interviews or be issued their immigration documents.

The offices will begin on the following dates:

  • Monday, September 9, 2013 CIV/SIT will be implemented for Form N-400 only.
  • Monday, September 30, 2013 CIV/SIT will additionally include and be implemented for Form I-485
  • As of Monday, September 30, 2013 CIV/SIT will be conducted on Forms N-400 and I-485
